The origins of Tallinn date back to the 13th century, when a castle was built there by the crusading knights of the Teutonic Order.
Is Tallinn worth visiting?
Estonians have a rich culture and you can find museums (different, ranging from medieval torture to popart and everything in between. I truly recommend to take a tour guide to walk around in the old town. It’s amazing, and all the stories! If you’re into night life then Tallinn is also a good place to visit.
Is Estonia expensive?
Estonia has become the most expensive country in the Eastern part of the European Union, Poland being cheapest. As confirmed by personal experience and fresh Eurostat data.
Why did Reval become Tallinn?
The castle was abandoned for unknown reasons in the end of the 11th century and Lindanise (Kolyvan in Russian sources) castle was built some time later on the today’s Toompea hill—this was basically the centre of the ancient Rävala county (hence the German name for Tallinn: Reval).
